I may get in trouble (yet again) for painting with a broad gender brush but it is my experience that moms all have at least one thing they go overboard on in terms of safety. For my sister-in-law she is almost phobic when her kids are near water. My mom hates when kids are on roads near any kind of traffic. I have a friend who has a sterilizer on her counter to ward of any germs. Mine? SUNSCREEN.
I just realized this pretty recently and I don’t know where it came from. I don’t burn easily and never really wore much sunscreen as a kid (and we had a pool!) I don’t even worry about putting it on much now unless it’s really sunny and I’m on a boat or something. But when it comes to my 5-year-old son, I’m mental about it. Just the other day he had water day at school and I went there after work to make sure he had enough on. If you know me, you know that’s very out of character. And today his school is having Play Day. I left the sunscreen on the counter WITH A NOTE for Mike. I am not a note leaving type.
What about you? Do you have something like this? And, guys, am I being sexist here to say it’s a Mom thing??
