As I enter the third trimester, the dreaded insomnia has reared its ugly head. I know it serves a purpose and gets me used to the lack of sleep to come, but COME ON, REALLY!?!??! Through the week I’m up before 4am, so you’d think my body would love the chance to catch up on weekends. Best I could do today, 6am. Sure that’s a couple hours more than usual, but when you stay up past midnight, you’re not doing yourself any favours.
It usually starts the same, up for a pee then my mind says ‘hey! we’re up! let’s think of a thousand things at once so she stays awake and gives us food’. Sure, i try to fight it, but after an hour of tossing and turning I know who’s won the battle.
Which is why I’m in my basement doing laundry, drinking decaf, eating Shreddies and catching up on work emails.
Maybe if you’re reading this right now, you can send me some suggestions on how to get back to sleep in the early morning hours. Then again, if you’re reading this your strategies probably don’t work any better than mine.
The funny thing is? All the things my brain was thinking and all the stuff it felt I needed to get up and do have escaped me. So, porn it is. Thank god for the internet.
