Over the weekend, I downloaded the bbm app for the iphone for my kid’s ‘phone’. He’s five and it’s not really a phone, just an old one without any data plan or anything. He uses it for games when we’re in the car and I don’t want him to fall asleep. But it does have wifi, so I wondered if bbm would work. And it does! Having moved his bedroom recently a little farther away from my room, I wanted him to know he could text me in the middle of the night and I’d come right away.
Last night, it worked! Well, half way…
My ringer was down too low and I didn’t hear it. Poor little guy came into my room and gave me proper crap for not getting his ‘text’. In the back of my mind I’m thinking, how crazy is this that a five year old even gets the concept of text messaging. Five years ago I was just learning how!!
I have joint custody with my son’s dad so the thought of being able to text him a bit here and there when he’s over there makes me so excited.
However, there are some people who think age five is way too early to get a kid into technology and specifically texting. What do you think? Have I opened a dangerous can of worms???
