On July 7, 1980, in Berlin, Led Zeppelin played their final show with drummer John Bonham. It was their last show of a a 14-date European tour in support of their studio album, ‘In Through The Out Door‘. A North American tour was scheduled for October, but on September 24th John was found dead at guitarist Jimmy Page’s house after consuming 40 shots of vodka during the previous day’s band rehearsal.
On December 4, Led Zeppelin issued a statement saying that the band was retiring as a result of Bonham’s death; singer Robert Plant, bassist John Paul Jones, and Jimmy Page have reunited only a few times since then.
