My Dog Roxy decided to jump ON a skunk the other night. It’s not the 1st time she’s been sprayed, but obviously hasn’t learned her lesson!
Since we’re old pro’s at dealing with this… I thought I’d share the best way to get the smell out. The faster to do this, the more effective too. Luckily my wife was right there, and threw Roxy in the bath right away.
– 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide
– 1/4 cup of baking soda
– 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap
Mix that all together… it’s like a paste that you smear all over the dog. The peroxide and baking soda neutralize the smell, and the dish soap helps to remove the oily substance the skunk leaves on your dog (or you for that matter).
I’ve been researching how to keep skunks out of the backyard. I hear they hate orange and lemon peels, so leaving them around the fence could help. Motion detector lights and sprinklers are apparently effective too…until I get nailed by the sprinkler when picking up after the dog! lol
Do you have any tips of keeping skunks out?
