By now you’ve probably heard of this massive hack, where some dude posted nude pictures of a bunch of celebs online. Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff, Kirsten Dunst, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Mary-Kate Olsen are among the victims.
Your first thought was probably… ‘is this real, maybe I should look for myself, just to see’. Then you may have thought, ‘well how would some guy get all these pictures in the first place?’ Apple hasn’t commented yet, but word is that someone apparently hacked into the iCloud service. So what is iCloud exactly? It’s a server that stores a bunch of your personal pictures, music, documents, calendar events etc.
When you plug your iPhone into your computer, there’s a ‘backup to iCloud’ option. A lot of people think, ‘I better back my phone up to the cloud so that if I ever lose it, or if it ever breaks I’ll still have my stuff’.’ Which is true. And even celebrities want to back up their phones. BUT… you would think that if you’re famous, and you’re going to take naked pictures of yourself… maybe you should back them up on a personal drive that stays in your house? Not on one that’s in cyber space where you KNOW, there are always people trying to ‘hack’ into it. I’m not saying it’s right… I’m just saying it’s reality.
Below is a quick video that explained what iCloud was all about when it first launched:
