It’s official: Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new movie scheduled for July 28, 2017! Andrew Garfield is out as Peter Parker and Marvel will cast a new actor in the role. Spidey is also expected to appear in a MCU film BEFORE his solo film in 2017, chances are he’ll make an appearance in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR which comes out next year. The chance to see Spider-Man interacting with Iron Man, Captain America, and The Avengers on the big screen is something comic book and movie fans have been waiting for for many years.
With the release of SPIDER-MAN on July 28, 2017, Marvel has had to re-arrange the latter half of Phase 3 of the Cinematic Universe: THOR: RAGNAROK gets pushed back to November 3, 2017. BLACK PANTHER will come out on July 6, 2018, CAPTAIN MARVEL moves to November 2, 2018 and IHUMANS will drop on July 12, 2019. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PARTS I and II will still come out in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
I can’t say I am a huge fan of Spider-Man; I’ve always enjoyed the movies but I can’t say the Marvel Cinematic Universe was suffering all that much without him! I know a lot of fans wanted him back home with Marvel Studios and I’m all for that, I just hope that they can make the character more interesting than he’s been in previous incarnations. And they have to skip the origin story, we all know how Peter Parker became Spider-Man and we don’t need to see that on the big screen again! Otherwise this is a huge development in the superhero movie genre and definitely changes the game going forward!
