I have nothing but utmost respect …. in fact I am in absolute awe of Burlington’s Steve Gaul. As I write this, Steve has just entered his 122nd hour of continuous drumming in order to set a Guinness World Record. Thing is …. if you ask Steve, it’s not at all about the Record. One he held after setting it in 2011 only to have it broken. It currently sits at 133 hours.
Steve’s true motivation is to raise $100,000 for Cardiac Kids. You see, Steve’s 2 year old daughter Jersey was born with a congenital heart disorder (CHD). At the tender age of 2 she has already had THREE open heart surgeries among other complications. 1 in 100 Canadian Children are born with a CHD. Steve isn’t just doing this for Jersey. He’s doing it to his extended family of Mums and Dads and Kids who have to deal with this gut wrenching experience.
I for one cannot fathom the determination Steve shows in his drumming. Nor can I comprehend what it would be like to not have a healthy child.
