Calling it a highly anticipated film would be an understatement. Star Wars: The Force Awakens blasted through our galactic hearts, crushing box office records. The advanced preview screening of the film Thursday night stole its predecessor’s record opening night- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 back in 2011. Harry Potter reached an estimate of $43.5 million dollars while Star Wars, the cultural phenomenon over several decades, flew in at $57 million domestically, according to Disney. It’s no wonder excitement and fandom spread rapidly as it’s been 32 years since a live action film featuring cast members from the original trilogy. So who holds the opening weekend record? Jurassic World for $209 million, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a bold contender.
