Apparently it just takes a selfie post on Instagram of Billie Joe Armstrong to get Green Day fans into a frenzy- and what I really mean is me, a Green Day fan, having my heart pound with anticipation at the thought of a new record. Billie Joe Armstrong shared a post, a photo of him in front of the microphone with headphones in what we can only assume is him recording something in the studio. The caption is titled “January 2016.” Now this is, albeit, an upgrade from his last selfie shared 3 days ago of an up close shot of his face challenging everyone to the ‘worst selfie contest.’ I think this recent one raises the stakes. Green Day released a Christmas track titled Xmas Time Of The Year on Christmas Eve wishing fans a happy holiday but other than that we haven’t had anything from the guys since 2012 with the release of their trilogy Uno! Dos! Tre! Producer, Rob Cavallo, has dropped hints in the past of the band back in the studio in April of 2015. Can you believe their first studio album 1,039/ Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was released 25 years ago? We’ve seen a separate side project of Billie Joe back in 2013 with his collaboration on Foreverly with Norah Jones. The album is inspired by the 1958 record Songs Our Daddy Taught Us by The Everly Brothers. So can we hope for a new Green Day record? This all remains speculation as nothing has been confirmed, however the hints are all laid out for us. I do love a man of mystery.
