I propose that rock music hold it’s own Grammy Awards ceremony! Rock ‘n’ roll was an endangered species at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards last night and while there were some notable rock acts among the nominees and performers, there was not a heck of a lot to enjoy if you’re a rock fan!
The Foo Fighters were nominated for Best Rock Performance for their tune “Something From Nothing”, but they lost out to the Alabama Shakes, who DO rock in their own way, but you know, they’re not the FOO FIGHTERS! Alabama Shakes also won Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Album, and…that was it for rock music nominated at the Grammys last night.
It really isn’t a surprise, the Grammy’s are more for the Taylor Swift’s and Justin Bieber’s of the world than the AC/DC’s and the Foo Fighters’. There were some notable rock performances at the Awards last night including a tribute to the late Glenn Frey of the Eagles, another one for the late blues legend BB King, and Lady Gaga did a musical tribute to David Bowie.
Poor Joe Perry of Aerosmith finished off the night, performing with singer Pitbull. See what happens when Steven Tyler goes solo and leaves Aerosmith for a bit? Everybody goes crazy and Joe Perry gets stuck playing with Pitbull! I don’t even know who Pitbull is! Steven Tyler, please come back to Aerosmith and rescue Joe Perry!
There were however, no contemporary rock bands performing at the Grammys, which brings me back to my original point – that we need to break off as rock fans and start our own Grammys! We’ll call it the Rockies…and there we can nominate and give awards to the rock bands that we love! The Grammy’s just aren’t cool anymore man. they don’t know how to let their hair down and ROCK ya know?
It’s all just a bunch of fluff, we gotta go solo guys!
Anyway, how bout those Grammy’s huh?
