Rock News of the Day
Drummer Chad Smith has confirmed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are in the studio mixing the full-length follow-up to 2011’s “I’m With You.”
The group have brought in Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck) to handle mixing duties for their 11th album after teaming up with producer Danger Mouse on the recording.
Sessions for the group’s first full record in five years were put on hold for six months last year after bassist Flea suffered a broken arm during a skiing trip in February 2015, which actually gave the band time to write more material for the project.
— Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner says the band will join up to begin writing their next album in April. The band’s most recent release was 2014’s Redeemer Of Souls and Faulkner says they are keen to build on that record’s success: Redeemer was the band’s first Top 10 entry on Billboard.
— A previously-unreleased David Bowie track that was recorded in 1970 has been made available for the first time. To Be Love is being streamed by its writer and producer Ron de Strulle as a tribute to Bowie, who died in January after a cancer battle. It can be heard and downloaded via mindbodynetwork.com.
— Zakk Wylde says that he’d come running if Ozzy Osbourne needed him back in the band as he admits he sees the Prince of Darkness and his wife Sharon as ‘family.’ Since parting ways with Ozzy back in 2009, Wylde has kept in close touch with Ozzy both personally and professionally with guest live slots on guitar.

New Study Proves It: Blondes Aren’t Dumb
Next time you make a dumb blonde joke you may be the true butt of it. Researchers at Ohio State University analyzed 10,878 Americans who took an IQ test, and five years later they were asked what their natural hair color was.
They found that blonde men and women aren’t less intelligent than those with other hair colors—and in fact may even be smarter, though the percentage difference isn’t statistically significant.
The blonde-haired white women had an average IQ of 103.2, compared to 102.7 for those with brown hair, 101.2 for those with red hair, and 100.5 for those with black hair. Results are similar for men.
Smart People Happier When Not Socializing With Pals
A study delving into the well-being of young people came up with two main findings: that people who live in more densely populated areas tend to be less happy, and that the more socializing one does with close friends, the more satisfied that person says he or she is.
But there was one outlier group—people with higher IQs—who didn’t seem as bothered by living in crowded areas as their counterparts, and who were less happy the more time they spent with pals… they needed their alone time to be their happiest.
