The day for music enthusiasts, music lovers, collectors of nostalgia, the Christmas Day, some might say, of music: It’s Record Store Day. What is Record Store Day? Glad you asked. Record Store Day was conceptualized in 2007 from independent record store employees and owners to celebrate a music format that has stood the test of time. I can confidently say that as the first vinyl dates back to the 1920’s and it’s now, what? 2016. Surreal. Multiple credited sources may give a different date but we can confirm it has been almost a century of vinyl. Every year, since the first year it was established in 2008, there have been Record Store Day Ambassadors. Last year it was Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and this year we get not one rockstar, but four; all the guys from Metallica. *Insert devil horns emoji here*
There are a lot of record stores right here in Hamilton, so Mike Mitchell and I from The New Noise, part of the Indie Show with Nick Cino, chatted with Scott Bell of Revolution Records, Brad Germain of Cheapies and Mark Furukawa of Dr. Disc about the importance of vinyl.
