Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says he hadn’t known until recently that his bandmates wanted to can him back in in 1986. There had been rumours, but Anthrax guitarist Scott remembers the story: “They were, like, ‘When we finish this tour, we’re going to find a new drummer.’ “
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett confirmed it, saying: “We were unhappy, and we might have grumbled something to someone.”
— Legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker is doing “okay” after he underwent open heart surgery. Back in February Ginger revealed that he planned to have open-heart surgery following a fall at his home.
— Queen’s 1981 “Greatest Hits” package has been named the best-selling album of all time in the UK. ABBA’s 1992 compilation, “Gold: Greatest Hits”, placed No. 2 on the list, with The Beatles delivering the country’s best-selling studio album at No. 3 with “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
— A member of Twisted Sister’s road crew has described Canada’s Amnesia Rockfest as the ‘worst festival ever,’ after facing a 2 ½ hour drive from their hotel to the event site and other backstage shortcomings. It was the band’s last performance in Canada before they draw the curtain on their 40-year career.

1973—Queen released their debut single in the U.K. on EMI Records, “Keep Yourself Alive”.
1975—Rolling Stone Keith Richards was arrested & charged with reckless driving & carrying an offensive weapon (a seven inch hunting knife) in Fordyce, Arizona. He was released on a $162 bail & later be cleared of all charges.
1977—At a Pink Floyd concert in Montreal at Olympic Stadium, Roger Waters got so angry at a fan that was climbing the mesh that separated the crowd from the band, he spit on him. This incident would lay the groundwork for Pink Floyd’s next album, The Wall.
1980—During a Ted Nugent concert in Hollywood, FL, 36 fans were arrested for allegedly smoking pot and throwing bottles onstage.
1993—Cheap Trick singer Robin Zander released his self-titled solo debut. It included guest appearances from Stevie Nicks, Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers & Zander’s Cheap Trick bandmates Rick Nielsen and Tom Petersson.
