The Guns N’ Roses ‘Not In This Lifetime’ Tour hit the Rogers Centre on Saturday night. Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan back together for the first time since 1993. Richard Fortus was the other guy on guitar. He, and drummer Frank Ferrer have been playing with Axl n’ Roses since 2001 and 2006 respectively. Dizzy Reed (who’s been with GNR since the Use Your Illusion era) was on keyboard along with Melissa Reese, who also sang backup vocals.
Were you at the show? What did you think?
I’ve only seen a couple of shows at The Rogers Dome, but each time I’ve been slightly disappointed with the sound. Same went for the GNR show. The atmosphere is awesome, and it’s a great spectacle – but the actual sound seems to always suffer, just a bit.
The show itself was awesome – starting with a great set by Billy Talent to get the crowd hyped, which they did playing all their hits. Guns N’ Roses went on 29 mins late – which is actually about an hour and 17 mins early in Axl time… (though so far on this tour they’ve been pretty punctual). They played all their big songs (plus Chinese Democracy) while also throwing in a little Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton into the mix. Slash was just amazing… he did an unreal guitar solo, and was just awesome to watch all show. I thought Axl’s vocals were a bit low in the mix at times, and it took him a bit to get warmed up.
Here’s just a little taste of what we experienced on Saturday:
