This past weekend, fans all over Canada said goodbye to not just a band, but a Canadian institution! The Tragically Hip performed their final show at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston on Saturday and the entire concert was broadcast live on the CBC. Over 11 million Canadians sat down to watch the concert live and say goodbye to the band. It was an emotional show and an incredible farewell for an incredible band!
And now that we’ve said goodbye to the Hip, it got me thinking: will any Canadian band ever live up to the Tragically Hip? There are numerous other Canadian bands but none have impacted us as much as a country as the Hip. Through their music, their personalities, and of course Gord Downie’s lyrics, they have become the sound of Canada. Even though we have an awesome crop of new Canadian bands (Monster Truck, Arkells, Glorious Sons), will any of them make as much of an impact on our country as the Hip? Only time will tell!
