Smells like Teen Spirit, Come as You Are, some of the heavy hitters on Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind. The album officially turned 25 on September 24th, marking a milestone for one of the most popular albums and iconic covers. Nevermind went on to sell over 30 million copies.
So what would it look like if you re-photographed that iconic image of the baby in the pool…just 25 years later. First of all, swim shorts are in order.
Meet 25 year old, Spencer Elden. At the time of the album cover shoot, Elden was only 4 months old. The parents got paid $200. Two hundred bucks and one of the most popular images in music culture. So how does he feel about it all? Elden told the New York Post, “The anniversary means something to me. It’s strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image. It’s cool but weird to be part of something so important that I don’t even remember.”
Well, we all remember it.
Happy 25th anniversary Nevermind
