Give the People What They Want.
Sharon Jones gave it all. There is no denying that every ounce of her soul poured out on any stage that was graced by her presence. I saw it with my own eyes last year at Hamilton’s Supercrawl. Many of us did.
I remember being there right at the front. The weather was not the greatest, but it didn’t matter because it would have been a big turnout regardless. I was at the side, pressed up against the fence in complete awe. “Wow just so much charisma and energy” was my first thought. I was so inspired, mesmerising voice aside, by the way she would just move her body on stage. You really felt the connection which is what I think we all look towards when we’re standing amongst the crowd. I remember her energy being so infectious you couldn’t help but dance a little yourself. There’s no way you stood entirely still for that performance
I’m honoured to have witnessed that right here in Hamilton.
Sharon Jones passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 60 on November 18th, 2016.
It’s always a very sad and shocking thing to read as a fan, but we are so lucky and grateful to have that music with us. Rest peacefully Sharon Jones.
