Why did the Salamander cross the road? To get to the other side silly! Just like chickens, salamander’s need to cross the road, especially if it means the survival of the species! The City of Burlington has made the decision to shut down a kilometre of King Road for three weeks to allow for the safe passage of Jefferson salamanders so they can get it on, so they can BREED!
They’re only found here in Southern Ontario and they’re also on the endangered species list. In spring, they wake up from their winter slumber and begin to migrate across what is King Road to where there are temporary ponds that they use to breed.
This means the salamanders won’t get killed by oncoming traffic as they migrate across the road at night and get some of that salamander on salamander love! Go salamanders!
