I went to England on a school vacation in 1986. The first meal I ordered in London, the server immediately asked if I was American because my accent clearly isn’t British. When I replied that I was Canadian, he said, “Oh … OK.” and proceeded to take my order. I wondered back then what would have happened back then if I had said yes. Would I have been served? Asked to leave?
Americans are not seen favourably as they vacation around the world. Many Canadians make sure they where a Maple Leaf when abroad to avoid prejudice.
Of course … the vast majority of Americans are decent courteous people. Then there’s THESE ONES who ruin things for the rest of us.
