Dr. Carolyn Eyles of McMaster University says that the escarpment is slowly eroding to the southwest towards London, at the rate of 3cm/year. Should you really be worried if you own a house on Hamilton Mountain? Not really… or at least not yet.
If you own property north of the Linc, you’ll have an awesome mountain view of downtown… in about 100,000 years.
The edge of the escarpment could reach Brantford, 37km away, in 1.2 million years. And if you’re in London waiting for that killer view, don’t hold your breath. It’ll be another 4.3 million years.
Of course, the City of Hamilton is taking action to deal with those changes, with a new rock fence built along the Claremont access costing about $1.3 million. Other projects planned for the Sherman access and Fifty Road access are estimated at $2.5 million each. Read more here:
