Allman Brothers founder Greg Allman will be laid to rest during a private memorial service in Macon, GA Saturday. He died May 27 from complications of liver cancer at the age of 69. The service itself will be kept to about 100 close family and friends, with a ‘no suits’ dress code. Following the service, Gregg will be buried next to his brother, Duane, and late band mate Berry Oakley, at the city’s Rose Hill Cemetery. The family has invited fans to line the route of the funeral procession.
U2 guitarist The Edge will receive the second annual Les Paul Spirit Award. The ceremony will happen at a special, invitation-only event on June 9, the same date that would have marked Les Paul’s 102nd birthday. U2 will then headline the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee that evening.
Former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour will debut his new concert film, “Live At Pompeii”, in theaters worldwide on September 13. It was filmed over two nights in July of 2016, 45 years after he first played there for the film, “Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii.” The shows made David the only performer to play to an audience in the arena since the time of the gladiators, almost 2,000 years ago, since the Pink Floyd film was filmed without an audience.
