We’re all getting pumped up for the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert this Thursday at First Ontario Centre! No doubt the band is going to play all the hits, but did you know that the Chilis have a LOT of awesome album tracks and b-sides for you to discover? Here are 15 Awesome Red Hot Chili Peppers Songs You Never Knew Existed!
This is a funky as hell number from the “One Hot Minute” album, featuring Dave Navarro on the guitar. I don’t love the album, but this song is just too kick ass to ignore! It starts out rocking and then is just total funk-out bliss.
2. Parallel Universe
The “Californication” album saw the triumphant return of guitarist John Frusciante to the RHCP fold and it took the band to a whole new level. Underneath the hits like “Scar Tissue” and “Otherside” you got this driving tune that features a killer bass line from Flea and a catchy as hell chorus.
3. Road Trippin’
This closing track from “Californication” is chill as hell and is great to listen to late at night!
4. Gong Li
This b-side from the “Scar Tissue” single is kind of like two songs in one. The first part is a Flea/Frusciante bass and guitar mashup followed by a catchy chorus courtesy of Anthony Kiedis.
The Chili Peppers go full on Beach Boys on this tune from the “By The Way” record. It’s pretty much the opposite of the funky style the band is known for, but it shows how serious their songwriting chops have become over the years.
6. Teenager In Love
Wanna hear the Chili Peppers do their take on this classic 50’s teen love song from Dion and the Belmonts? Here ya go! From the “By The Way” single.
7. She’s Only 18
Anthony Kiedis has never shied away from talking about sex in his lyrics, and this tune from “Stadium Arcadium” is pure, sex obsessed filthy Kiedis!
8. Especially In Michigan
This is one of the best songs from “Stadium Arcadium”. Frusciante, Flea and drummer Chad Smith lay down a rocking foundation for Kiedis to come in with one of his best vocal performances on record. Features a wicked guest guitar solo from Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta.
9. Animal Bar
The “Stadium Arcadium” record has plenty of unsung gems on it, and this may be my fav! Flea delivers a killer bass line that is chill but still drives the song home!
10. Brendan’s Death Song
This song tackles dark subject matter with the loss of a band friend, but it’s so damn hopeful that it should be played at every funeral ever. Anthony Kiedis delivers an amazing vocal!
11. Annie Wants A Baby
The “I’m With You” record doesn’t get a whole lot of attention, but it contains a lot of solid tunes. This song is one of them!
12. Police Station
Another chill tune from the Chilis. They do the chill thing almost as well as the funky thing, and this is a gem from the “I’m With You” record.
13. Victorian Machinery
The “I’m With You” record spawned a b-side record called “I’m Behind You” which featured 17 non-album tracks. The songs range from just OK to awesome, with this one definitely being on the awesome side of the scale!
14. The Longest Wave
A gem from the most recent RHCP record “The Getaway”. When I first heard the record this was a standout and it still is!
Another chill out tune from the band, this song has a beautiful melody and an awesome vocal from Anthony Kiedis. An instant classic!
