Queen guitarist Brian May says that a movie about late Queen singer Freddie Mercury is closer than ever to happening. It’s been 12 years in the planning (Sacha Baron Cohen was originally going to play the lead before pulling out of the role) but an announcement is expected soon to say that funding for the film has been approved, and that a script has been finalized. “Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek will have the starring role.
The passing of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell has pulled the sound of grunge back into he spotlight, so it’s not surprising that music from Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and other grunge bands will be featured in a new musical set in the grunge scene in 1990’s Seattle, where the movement started. The Seattle Repertory Theatre has commissioned a musical that will incorporate songs from the most important bands of the scene while exploring the history of the genre.
