This afternoon at 1:30pmET (weather permitting), the Falcon Heavy rocket will lift off from the same launch pad in Florida that first sent men to the moon aboard the Saturn V rocket.
Tesla founder Elon Musk’s SpaceX is hoping to build on their experience with reusable rockets to develop a heavy-lift vehicle that will be able to economically take large loads into Earth orbit and beyond. And the quirky entrepreneur has decided to add a bit of fun for today’s festivities: the test payload will be a cherry red Tesla roadster with a figure decked out in a futuristic-looking SpaceX spacesuit sitting behind the wheel while David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” blasts on the car’s sound system.
