KISS bassist Gene Simmons has written a new book about a strange phenomenon: famous musicians who died at the age of 27, otherwise known as “The 27 Club”. He’s got a theory about it, which he lays out in his new read about Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, and many others. The Legend And Mythology Of The 27 Club will be released August 14th.
The Smashing Pumpkins have directly addressed why original bassist D’arcy Wretzky won’t be a part of reunion plans. A statement from the band reads, “The reason original bassist D’arcy Wretzky is not taking part in the Pumpkins reunion album has nothing to do with the remaining band members… (they) haven’t played a show with D’arcy Wretzky for over 18 years. But it’s not for a lack of trying… Ms. Wretzky has repeatedly been invited out to play with the group, and in each and every instance she always deferred.”
Another supergroup is taking shape. Sixx:A.M. singer James Michael and ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba have announced a new band named Pyromantic, which Michael describes as “Heavy, but it’s also got these really, really pop melodies… what we went after is a blend of dance, rock and pop.” The band plans to release music this year.
