U #2

3/13/2012

Here’s a music-related financial list that U2 somehow didn’t end up topping.  Billboard has compiled their annual “Moneymakers” list, which takes into account Boxscore archives for concert grosses, sales of physical and digital albums as well as ringtone sales, and data generated from radio airplay, music streams, and music video plays.  Taking into account all those factors, Taylor Swift was dubbed the biggest earner of 2011, with an estimated $35.7 million intake.  U2 finished second with $32.2 million, followed by country superstar Kenny Chesney with $29.8 million.  The rest of the Top 10 included: Lady Gaga ($25.3 million), Lil’ Wayne ($23.2 million), Sade ($16.4 million), Bon Jovi ($15.8 million), Celine Dion ($14.3 million), Jason Aldean ($13.4 million), and Adele ($13.1 million).
